Club Dinner and Presentation: “Conquering The South Pole”
February 25th, 2015, Wednesday
On 25 February 2015, the Reform Union Club held its regular monthly meeting for its members and friends in Triaditsa 2 Hall of Grand Hotel Sofia. In view of the members’ enormous interest in the international expedition in which the Club’s Chairman, Prof. Lachezar Tsotsorkov, conquered the South Pole in late December 2014, the main focus of the event was his first-person narration of his experiences and emotions during this unique adventure. Against the background of authentic footage from the journey to Punta Arenas, Chile, the preparation of a place from which to storm the centre of the icy continent and the actual process of overcoming nature’s challenges on the way to the Pole, Mr. Tsotsorkov described every step of his journey with a lot of enthusiasm, making a deep impression. The assembly saw an impressive amount of film footage of the places visited and learned extremely interesting facts about the conditions of living in the Antarctic. Naturally, special attention was given to the visit at the Bulgarian base on Livingstone Island. As the evening drew to a close, it became apparent that the information, impressions and the footage shot during the journey were so much that it would not be possible to exhaust them in a mere couple of hours, which naturally led to a promise by Mr. Tsotsorkov to continue his presentation at one of the Club’s next meetings.
As a tasty icy nod to the main theme, the final part of the dinner offered a tasting of the exquisite ice-creams Coppa Della Maga, which are made in Bulgaria from 100% natural products.
