Club Discussion “The Bulgarian Orthodox Church And The Modern Value System Of The Successful People In Bulgaria”
April 23rd, 2015, Thursday
On 23 April 2015, the Reform Union Club held its monthly club meeting for its members and friends in the Sofia Hall of Grand Hotel Sofia. The topic of the discussion was devoted to the formation of the modern value system of the Bulgarian society and the role of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church (BOC) as a moral authority. The debate constituted a part of a series of discussion meetings which are held by the Club to promote the realisation of one of the association’s main ambitions, namely the project “The value system of the successful people of today”. The views of the BOC on the current condition of moral values were presented by the Tiveriopol Bishop Tikhon – Chairman of St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Sofia. The guest presented various ways in which the Church could influence the formation of the younger generation’s worldview and the initiatives launched to strengthen the interest in faith and the spiritual aspect of life. According to Bishop Tikhon, every priest should adopt an individual approach to promoting the eternal values, by finding an easy way to communicate directly with the visitors to the church on everyday topics so as to demonstrate the inseparability of church and society in this life.
To end the event, as a secular reflection on the discussion on faith and spiritual values, the guests enjoyed the premiere screening of the 30-minute film “The Dance – A Dream Come True”, starring Prof. Lachezar Tsotsorkov. The film was presented by Prof. Lyubomir Halachev – Rector of the NATFA Academy.
