General Meeting and Club Lecture by Prof. Kevin Dowd

On March 15th, 2012 the Reform and Union Club conducted its General Meeting at Crystal Palace Hotel in Sofia. The General Meeting was followed by dinner during which the distinguished British professor Kevin Dowd gave a lecture on the following topic: “Banking crisis – lessons and conclusions”. Kevin Dowd is liberal economist and financial expert, renowned for its publications both in the field of financial risk management and in the theoretical domain of money and monetary systems. Prof. Dowd is extremely popular lecturer and consults a number of financial institutions, including the Central Banks of Ireland, England and the Netherlands. In 2010, in collaboration with Martin Hutchison, he wrote the book “Alchemists of Loss: How modern finance and government intervention crashed the financial system” which is one of the best-sellers analyzing what has caused the current crisis and how it could be feasibly resolved. He acquainted the members and guests of the Reform and Union Club with his views regarding the necessity of radical changes in the banking regulations which stirred genuine interest and a vivid discussion.
Shortly after the start of the dinner there was made a brief presentation of Alfa Vita wine – it is an anti-oxidant wine produced through a special technology and possessing the highest anti-oxidant capacity of all popular wines and spirits in the world. The wine was introduced by Mrs Vili Galabova, the first and still the only Bulgarian wine judge in International Wine and Spirit Competition, UK, as well as one of the wine leading experts in Bulgaria.
